Sputnik-V covid vaccine approved in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD : The Pakistani government has approved the ‘urgent use’ of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine to tackle the Covid-19 epidemic. A government official confirmed Saturday that Sputnik V has been granted import and supply rights to a local pharmaceutical company, as ordered by the government.

Sputnik V is the third Covid-19 vaccine approved by the Pakistan government for emergency use. At a meeting of the Board of Drug Control Authority of Pakistan, emergency use of another vaccine was allowed. It was developed with the help of the Russian Development Investment Fund, reports Dawn newspaper quoting an official.

Prior to this, the authority authorized the emergency use of the Covid-19 vaccine, which was developed by Oxford University-AstraZeneca, and then the Chinese Sinovac vaccine. But. Brazilian clinical trials have found that Chinese medicine has no more than 50.4% efficacy.
