CWRC instructs Karnataka to release 3 thousand cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu every day

Bengaluru: Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWRC) has again given a shock to Karnataka as protests continue in the Cauvery basin to pressure the government not to release water to Tamil Nadu. It has instructed Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu every day for the next 15 days. 

In the 88th meeting of the CWR held in New Delhi, it was decided to ensure daily flow of 3,000 cusecs of water in Biligundlu from October 16 to 31.

In the meeting, the officials of Karnataka argued that there is a shortage of water in the state and that they cannot supply water to Tamil Nadu. Till October 10 per cent for four reservoirs. 50.891 per cent of inflow shortfall, Karnataka will not be able to release any water from its reservoirs to reach Biligundlu except for uncontrolled water flow, he said.

However, Tamil Nadu argued that Karnataka should release 16,000 cusecs (20.75 tmc) of water for the next 15 days. Finally, the CWRC decided that Karnataka should ensure flow of 3,000 cusecs of water from its reservoirs in Biligundlu from October 16 to 31.
