Covid-19: China’s lack of information leads to restrictions by other countries: WHO

Geneva: Restrictions introduced by some countries in response to China’s Covid-19 outbreak are “understandable”, citing a lack of information from Beijing, the World Health Organization has said.
The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who spoke about this, said that China should provide more information about the epidemic situation. The UN statement came after the US joined several countries in imposing Covid tests on travelers from China after Beijing lifted foreign travel restrictions despite a surge in cases. .
“To make a comprehensive risk assessment of the Covid-19 situation in China, WHO needs more detailed information. In the absence of comprehensive information from China, it is understandable that countries around the world are acting in ways they believe can protect their populations. We are concerned about the evolving situation and will continue to monitor the Covid-19 virus for detection and more “We will continue to encourage China to vaccinate at-risk populations. We will continue to provide our support for clinical care and to protect its health system,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.
On December 21, WHO is concerned about reports of severe disease in China. He said they should share detailed information about disease severity, hospital admissions and intensive care needs.
China’s National Health Commission said last week it would no longer release official daily Covid death tolls.
