Draft Notification of Redistribution of BBMP Wards; Published in Special Statement

BENGALURU: As expected, the state government has issued a notification for the restructuring of the huge Bangalore wards, and has issued a notification in a special Statement.

The Government of Karnataka has released a draft notification of 243 wards of the BBMP. After the Supreme Court directed the state government to complete the allotment of wards and the OBC reservation process within 8 weeks, the state government has issued a draft notification for the 243 wards of massive Bangalore metropolitan area. 

The department has given 15 days time for the public to submit their objections to the BBMP regarding the sorting of wards. As per the notification, all persons / organizations with objections and suggestions for the proposal should submit their draft notification to the Additional Chief Secretary of UDD within 15 days of the publication of the draft notification.

A Joint House Committee headed by MLA S Raghu has taken delimitation based on 2011 population and the BBMP sent it to UDD last week. The Karnataka government has constituted a redistricting committee to work on delimiting the ward boundary of the 243 wards to achieve population uniformity. The committee followed the criteria set out in BBMP Act 2020 (KARNATAKA ACT NO. 53 OF 2020 THE BRUHAT BENGALURU MAHANAGARA PALIKE ACT, 2020 FT PAR: GO No UDD 4 MLR 2014 dt.215.02.2014), based on the 2011 population of BBMP. Marked the boundaries of the ward.

Bangalore is growing at a fast pace. 44 is a record high. According to the 2011 census, the population of the huge Bangalore metropolitan area (BBMP) was 84,43,675. Considering the situation that has created inequality in the population of 198 wards in the BBMP range, the Karnataka government has increased the number of wards of the BBMP from 198 to 243.
