Karnataka Congress party to proceed with Mekedatu padayatra from Jan 9-19 despite Covid curfew

Bengaluru : The Congress in Karnataka on Wednesday chose to proceed with its ‘padayatra’ (walk) from Mekedatu to Bengaluru, requesting execution of the Mekedatu project across the Cauvery waterway, regardless of the public authority’s COVID-19 limitations.
Portraying government’s COVID control measures, reported on Tuesday night, as a “connivance” to “leave” their padayatra, State Congress president D K Shivakumar and Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Siddaramaiah told that they will go on, keeping the rules.
The Congress’ walk from Mekedatu to Bengaluru, covering a distance of more than 100 kilometers, requesting execution of the Mekedatu project, which is being gone against by adjoining Tamil Nadu, is planned from January 9 to 19.
As per State Congress presiden DK Shivakumar, the party has requested sanitisers and 100,000 veils for the members of the padayatra. Likewise, 100 specialists from the party’s primary care physicians’ phone and 10 portable wellbeing examination units will be sent during the 10-day occasion, he said. Reacting to the Congress, Karnataka health minister K Sudhakar said that the spread of the infection is going on before everybody’s eyes, and he trusts that Congress will make the right strides. “Individuals are watching, and they will settle on a choice.
