BBMP election: Supreme Court steps down High Court order

BANGALORE: The state government has moved the Supreme Court challenging the High Court order to hold a massive Bangalore metropolitan election.

A senior government official told  that the government is trying to postpone the BBMP election, challenging the High Court order and appealing to the Supreme Court.

The Election Commission had said it was ready to hold elections within the stipulated time, but the government was not ready, so appealed to the Supreme Court on December 10 seeking more time. He said the case had to come to trial.

The High Court recently instructed the state government to hold elections within six weeks from the date of the reservation notification. Law Minister J Jayalalithaa asked what the relationship should be. C. At a meeting chaired by Madhuswami, the Supreme Court decided to step down.

The state government has appealed to the Supreme Court in the wake of the passage of the BBMP Bill in the Assembly. Other lawmakers want the election to be in line with the new law. “It was decided to appeal to the Supreme Court seeking more time,” a senior BBMP official said.
