Bengaluru : Silicon City Bangalore has reported that an individual lost Rs 5.47 lakh during the process of canceling an order after booking the expensive Bluetooth headphone on the e-commerce site. It is a bit difficult to believe though.

A resident of Ashok Nagar, Bangalore, Venkatesha N. Palankar, 37, has fallen into the trap of online fraud when he is called to a customer care center. Also, millions of rupees have been lost. Palankar paid Rs. 1,564 Bluetooth headphones have been purchased through the e-commerce portal. But after buying, they change their mind and proceed to cancel the order. In a complaint to cybercrime police, he said he had been cheated.

“To get the money back, I got a number from the website. I thought it was a customer care number. Then they suggested me to download the support app for me and I did. He then gave some details and asked me to fill it in the online wallet app. Once I did that, the money from my two bank accounts started to be debited. In many transactions, a total of Rs 5,57,771 has been debited from the two accounts, ”he said in the complaint.

Knowing that his account had been deducted over a period of 10 days, Palankar contacted the cyber crime branch officials. Police have registered a case of fraud under the provisions of the Personnel and Information Technology Act.

“They got the phone number from the browser. People who shop online should only contact the numbers entered on official websites. Otherwise, they could get into a cybercrime fraud network, ”said a police official.
