Suspension of MLAs, Discussion with Governor, This is an Anti-Democratic Move: Opposition Leader R. Ashoka

The Governor has been consulted over the suspension of 18 BJP MLAs. Opposition Leader R. Ashoka stated that the Governor will speak with the Speaker and the government about the issue.

After meeting with the Governor at Raj Bhavan, Ashoka told reporters:

“Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot was introduced to us. The BJP had demonstrated against Muslim reservations and Minister Rajanna’s honeytrap problem during the previous session. The decision by Speaker U.T. Khader to suspend BJP MLAs for six months during this time is anti-democratic. Congress has declared a national emergency, as we have all witnessed. Voters have chosen us to address the Assembly. Even our daily job is being hampered by this ban.”The BJP government operated in accordance with democratic norms, but in the past, Congress MLAs had rushed the Speaker’s podium. Just as significant as the ruling party is the opposition. We have demanded that this suspension order be withdrawn in our conversations with the Speaker and the Law Minister. The Governor has been made aware of the problem and promised to send a letter and speak with the Speaker.

“The Chief Minister, together with ministers and MLAs, has been making false claims on a terrorist attack for the last three days. Those who questioned their Hindu faith were shot by terrorists. Minister R.B. Thimmapur claims that the terrorists were hurried and executed right away. The relatives of the victims have recounted the event, although they maintain that it had nothing to do with religion. “Votes, not the country, are important to Congress leaders,” Ashoka said.

“They would greet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah with a magnificent procession and perhaps bestow their greatest civilian honor if he were sent to Pakistan. Senior leaders and the military decide war. Such claims shouldn’t be made right now.

It has been reported that the Railway Department’s examination rules call for the removal of sacred threads and mangalsutra. We spoke with Union Minister Pralhad Joshi about this, and he gave us strong instructions not to enforce this law,” Ashoka continued.
