Another setback for Prabhas starrer Adipurush; VHP objects to depiction of Rama, Ravana

Uttar Pradesh: Objecting to the depiction of Rama, Lakshmana and Ravana in the teaser of the film ‘Adipurush’, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Wednesday warned against allowing the film to be screened in theatres.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Sambhal unit campaign chief Ajay Sharma told reporters here that the way Lord Rama, Ravana and Lakshmana were depicted in ‘Adipurusha’ was a mockery of Hinduism. By this the values of Hindu society have been mocked. Hindu society will not tolerate this, he said.
Actor Prabhas as Lord Rama and Saif Ali Khan as Ravana in the movie Adipurusha. The team has decided to release the film in January next year.
‘The way Ravana is portrayed does not match the Ramayana and related religious texts. Therefore, VHP will not allow this film to be screened in theatres,’ said Sharma.
Expressing displeasure with the Central Board of Film Certification, the VHP leader said, ‘The board is working indiscriminately and irresponsibly. If the board is unable to perform its duties, the government should disband it,” he said.
The 1.46-minute teaser of the film, directed by Om Raut, was released in Ayodhya on Sunday. Within hours hashtags like #BoycottAdipurush and #BanAdipurush were trending.
It has been complained that Ravana in the film, with his beard, fierce eyes and special hairstyle, personifies barbarism. Many have complained that Ravana is clearly Islamized. The depiction of Hanuman, beardless, moustache-less and wearing leather clothing, has also drawn criticism.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said that the film had attacked the sentiments of Hindus. Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra has warned that legal action will be taken if scenes depicting Hindu religious figures in a ‘wrong’ manner are not removed.
