High Court orders commission to conduct BBMP elections

Bengaluru: The Election Commission has ordered the Election Commission to announce the election of 196 wards of the BBMP .
Former corporator of Congress. Shivraj appealed to the court to step down and order an election. A divisional bench headed by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka, which has been hearing the petition, has ordered the Commission to release the schedule within the next 6 weeks.
The court said it would issue a reservation notification within a month and announce the schedule within 6 weeks of the reservation order being issued. The BBMP election is likely to take place in March following the High Court order.
The state government had approved the proposal to increase the 198 wards to 243 in the Assembly. The committee, headed by MLA Raghu, was presenting an interim report. The final report was due to be submitted in the near future. Because of this, the government postponed the election to the polls.
