New CSI Bishop of Karnataka Central Diocese Honored, Discusses Caste Census

Bishop Rev. Dr. Vincent Vinoth Kumar, the newly consecrated Bishop of the Church of South India (CSI), Karnataka Central Diocese, was recently honored at an event in Bangalore. The felicitation was led by Dr. Yoonas Jones, Vice President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (HRD), and was also attended by other notable figures, including Rev. Dr. Jaya nesan and Mr. Dinakara Velu.

During the event, the dignitaries engaged in a discussion about the ongoing caste census in Karnataka. The Church’s position on this census is of particular importance as it seeks to ensure the Christian community’s participation is both accurate and reflective of their identity. The discussions likely revolved around how the community can best respond to the survey, especially regarding the declaration of “Christian” as a caste or sub-group. Bishop Kumar’s new role places him at the forefront of these crucial conversations, as he will be leading the dialogue with both the government and the community to ensure their concerns are properly addressed.
