BBMP takes precautionary measures to prevent spread of disease following heavy rains in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Bengaluru’s Sai Layout was waterlogged due to heavy rains. Therefore, preventive measures have been taken to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and minimize public inconvenience, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) said on Friday.

Incessant rains since May 18 have severely affected daily life in the area located in Horamavu ward of Mahadevapura zone, with water logging in places. BBMP officials and staff have been deployed at the spot to assess the situation and take necessary action, officials said.

Led by Mahadevapura Zonal Commissioner K N Ramesh, the BBMP Health Department acted swiftly to safeguard the health of the residents of Sai Layout. A medical team comprising doctors and paramedical staff has been deployed in the area and a health camp has been set up. The camp includes essential medicines, equipment for blood pressure monitoring and an ambulance, an official statement said.

Under the supervision of senior health inspectors, Accredited Social Health Workers (ASHA) are visiting houses to educate residents about water-borne and pathogen-borne diseases like dengue and the importance of using safe drinking water, the statement said.

To prevent the outbreak of diseases like dengue, disinfectant sprays are being used in the affected areas and fogging operations are being carried out to control mosquito breeding, civic officials said.

In case of emergency, residents are requested to contact the Mahadevapura Zone Control Room at 080-28512300 or share information via WhatsApp at 9480685706.
