Human Rights Activist Raises Concern Over Unauthorized Strobe Lights on Private Vehicles

In a significant move aimed at enhancing road safety and ensuring adherence to
legal standards, Human Rights and Anti Corruption Forum Hq Delhi , Media
Wing ,National Vice President -Mr.John Prem .J submitted a formal letter to
the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) highlighting the increasing and
unauthorized use of strobe lights on private vehicles.
According to the activist, The use of these lights on private vehicles not only
violates traffic regulations but also creates unnecessary confusion and disturbance
on the road. Such vehicles often try to maneuver through traffic more aggressively,
causing inconvenience to other road users and potentially endangering the safety of
the public.
Several private vehicles, including cars and two-wheelers, are frequently seen on
the roads with flashing emergency lights, which are typically reserved for
emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks, and police vehicles. Many
vehicles with blue and red flashing LED lights either in the front grill or on the
dashboard can be seen.
The Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, Rule no. 108, states that no private motor
vehicles are allowed to use multi-coloured red, blue and white lights. These lights
are reserved for use with specifically designated vehicles, such as emergency and
disaster management personnel.
Speaking on the issue, Human Rights Activist’s John Prem stated, “Road safety
is a fundamental right, and no individual should have their safety compromised by
the reckless use of unauthorized modifications. It’s high time that authorities take
strict action to curb this dangerous practice.”
The activist has urged the police department to promptly address the issue and
enforce existing laws to ensure the safety of all road users
