Hot wind in some parts of the state: Meteorological department alert

BENGALURU: The State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center (KSNDMC) has advised people on the appropriate measures to take to keep themselves safe during intense heat waves.

An official said that the sun and temperature have increased like never seen before in Karnataka and safety measures should be taken. A heat wave warning has been issued for the next five days in some parts of the state.

Temperatures are likely to reach 40 degrees Celsius tomorrow in areas like Bagalkote, Vijayapura, Kalaburgi, Yadgiri, Raichur, Koppala, Bellary, Tumkur, Mandya, Gadag, Davangere and Chitradurga, said Center Director CP Patil. A maximum temperature of 39 degree Celsius was recorded in these parts on April 25. The coastal region will have very hot air and it is better for children and elderly people to avoid exposure to heat, he advised.

Going out of the house between 12 noon and 3 pm should be minimized, it is better to use protective glasses, umbrella or hat when going out. Cold drinks should also be avoided as they cause dehydration, it is better to drink as much water as possible even if you are not thirsty, said M Rajavel, head of LACD, Bangalore Meteorological Centre.

Patil said maximum and minimum temperatures in Bengaluru are likely to be 37 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius respectively for the next 48 hours.
