Declare Journalists as Front Line Workers, Vaccinate on Priority: Editor’s Guild

NEW DELHI: Amid an increasing number of coronavirus cases in the country, the Editors’ Guild on Thursday urged the central government to declare journalists as leading workers and vaccinate them on priority.

News organizations are relentlessly reporting on epidemics, elections and other current affairs. The flow of news and information to the reader continues unhindered. Journalists should be declared front line workers, the guild said in its announcement.

“The news media is also included in essential services. Therefore, it is fair to provide this cover to journalists, especially in the face of increasing numbers of infected people,” the statement said.

The Editors Guild of India (EGI) urges the central government to declare journalists as frontline workers, and that they have the opportunity to work with other frontline workers to vaccinate against the corona virus.
