7 pharmaceutical companies in India are in the race for Covid-19 vaccine

NEW DELHI: Pharmaceutical companies globally are trying to develop the Covid-19 vaccine, with 7 Indian pharmacies competing.

Indian pharmaceutical companies such as Bharat Biotech, Serum Institute, Zydus Cadila, Panacea Biotech, Indian Immunologicals, MineWax and Biological E are working on developing the coronavirus globally.

Generally, any vaccine test requires a year and a half of extra time to prepare it. But now, with the widespread spread of Covid-19, pharmaceutical companies are working on rapidly developing a vaccine.

The first and second phase of clinical trial of Candidate Covaxin, developed by Bharat Biotech Company, has been approved. Last week also launched clinical trials on humans. Serum Institute of India has reported on vaccine manufacture and has expressed confidence that Covid-19 will be able to find a vaccine by the end of the year.

We are conducting a phase III clinical trial on the AstraZeneca Oxford vaccine. “The vaccine will be tested on humans in India by August 2020,” said Adar Poonawala, CEO of Serum Institute.

The company is also developing a live attenuated vaccine with US-based biotech company Kodagenix. Poonavala said the vaccine produced by these companies is beneficial for India and for middle and low income countries. Zydus Cadillac has announced that it will complete a clinical trial of the Candidate Zycovi-D vaccine in 7 months.
