IPL likely to take place in Sri Lanka in October: Sunil Gavaskar

New Delhi: The T20 World Cup may be held in Australia as previously thought. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar believes the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) should be held in Sri Lanka in September.

Speaking in an interview with a TV channel, he said the Australian government had announced 25 people can gather. Thus the T20 World Cup is likely to take place in October. Teams will probably have to arrive three weeks early after the announcement of the Australian government, saying there will be a 14-day quarantine after a seven-day practice match.

The T20 World Cup may be held in the ICC’s wishes. But, the IPL seems impossible. The T20 World Cup match could only take place if Australia’s PM Scott Morrison approves or It is impossible for the IPL to take place in October. Gavaskar said there are chances of a match taking place between Sri Lanka or the UAE in September.

India cannot host IPL due to rain in September. However, in Sri Lanka, teams can play each other instead of a double header. Due o Covid19 playing cricket with no spectators in the stadium will be a different experience.
